Universal cylindrical grinding generally refers to the cylindrical grinding process applied to the outside or inside diameter of a part. For external cylindrical grinding the workpiece is usually clamped between tips. The infeed of the grinding tool is then machined conventionally or CNC-controlled. In centerless through feed grinding, which is a typical serial grinding process, pistons for the automotive industry, shafts, rods and also elements for the rolling bearing industry are produced. Internal cylindrical grinding: Internal cylindrical grinding is one of the most common and also most difficult grinding operations. Cylindrical grinding is divided into external cylindrical grinding and internal cylindrical grinding and these in turn into the two types of feed motion: traverse feed and plunge-cut (with radial feed). In addition, centerless grinding, a special form of cylindrical grinding, is divided into through-feed grinding and plunge-cut grinding. The internal cylindrical grinding process is primarily used to refine internal functional surfaces. A variety of different applications have been developed for this process over the past few decades. Surface quality of OHNS steel after cylindrical grinding process is proposed to be studied in this experimental work using L9 orthogonal array selected for three levels and three input parameters.
