Whatcom County, Washington. Gold Prospecting Home

Any type of gold pan and a small shovel. Intermediate- Sluice box, high banker, shovel and pick. The big guns- Dredge. Finding the gold. The easiest place in Whatcom County to find gold is on the South Fork of the Nooksack River. Access spots without worrying about trespassing problems are around the fish hatchery on the Saxon RD.

Rockhounding WA DNR

Gold panning is not authorized on DNR-managed State Trust land (i.e. non-navigable stream passing over DNR State Trust lands). A formal HPA is not required for recreational panning and prospecting if you use a gold pan, mini-rocker box, or nonmotorized, small sluice box. However, you must have a formal HPA for sluicing and dredging.
